The Treatment Innovation and Dissemination Lab (TIDL) (http://tidl.ssw.umich.edu/) at the University of Michigan School of Social Work is accepting applications for two postdoctoral fellowship positions to begin in September 2019. We are seeking candidates whose interests include translational (research-to-practice) and implementation research with an emphasis on technology-based interventions. The fellowship positions are for one-year to two-years, with an initial one-year appointment and the option for renewal for a second year if fellows are making good progress towards the goals of the position.
TIDL is a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional team of faculty members, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and community partners focused on improving psychosocial treatment for mental disorders and increasing access to evidence-based mental health treatments for traditionally underserved populations. Our lab utilizes community-based participatory approaches and technological innovations to achieve these aims. Our NIMH-funded program builds on the interdisciplinary strength of the resource-rich, research-focused environment at the University of Michigan.
The TIDL postdoctoral fellowships will focus on the following two areas:
One TIDL post-doctoral fellow will be mentored by Dr. Matthew Smith (Associate Professor and TIDL Co-Director) on the skills needed to effectively develop and evaluate technology-based interventions to enhance employment outcomes for underserved populations. We are looking for a candidate who is interested in working with one or more of the following groups: transition-age youth with educationally-defined disabilities (e.g., autism), adults with severe mental illness, offenders preparing for decarceration, or youth aging out of foster care.
A second TIDL post-doctoral fellow will be co-mentored by Dr. Joseph Himle (Professor and Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs; TIDL Founder and Co-Director) and Dr. Addie Weaver (Assistant Professor and TIDL Co-Director). This fellow will gain skills needed to develop and test technology-based cognitive behavioral interventions within underserved community settings in both urban and rural contexts. There will also be a focus on assessing intervention implementation. We are looking for a candidate who is interested in mental health intervention and implementation research, specifically scholars interested in improving access to evidence-based care for anxiety disorders and mood disorders.
TIDL postdoctoral fellows will be involved in their mentors’ federally funded intervention and implementation research while developing their independent research agendas. In addition to training in community-based intervention research using technology, fellows will receive training and mentorship in grant writing (e.g., NIH, private foundations, etc.). Fellows will have full access to resources available through the School of Social Work and the University of Michigan – a rich interdisciplinary environment with seminars, invited lectures, and opportunities for collaboration with faculty across disciplines and departments.
The postdoctoral position offers a stipend, health insurance benefits, and funds for travel and professional development.
